PROJECTS

Aside from my work and all of the years I have dedicated to elite level sports I have been able to find some time for cool projects. Check them out!

FORMULA 1 2022 FRONT WING

MASTERS THESIS, JULY 2023

Designed a Formula 1 Front Wing according to the 2022 technical regulations. Then ran a steady-state CFD simulation at the maximum speed of current F1 cars to test the wing's drag, downforce, and aerodynamic efficiency. And finally, followed this with a virtual carbon fiber lamination of the wing and validation of the model by running three different load tests. These studies would consist of first, using the pressure contours obtained from the simulation, checking deflection and possible composite failure, second, running the required FIA test to validate the wing, third and last, running a modal simulation and checking the resonance frequencies of the wing.

HISPANO-SUIZA SUSPENSION ARM DESIGN

DESIGN PROJECT, MAY 2023

Designed and optimized a theoretical rear-upper wishbone taking into account certain restrictions, requisites and materials for the Hispano-Suiza 2023 version as part of a class project within QEV Technologies Academy.

BROWNIAN MOTION SIMULATOR

NORTHWESTERN MECH. ENG. CAPSTONE, JUNE 2022

Designed and built a portable device that emulates Brownian motion for macro-scale model particles and allows for an additional constant separating force to be applied to molecules in a 2D plane that can be used in a classroom setting for demonstrations and for research applications.

NFR21 FUEL TANK

NORTHWESTERN FORMULA RACING, 2021

Member of engineering team responsible for design, optimization, and manufacturing of powertrain for a formula-style race car in compliance with stringent design and safety regulations. Implemented 280 cc/min injectors, reducing the size of the previous years in order to improve injector response during typical engine operation along more optimal duty cycle range over previous years. Analyzed through simulations and material selection changes to optimize fuel tank design for 40% lighter fuel tank than previous years, by replacing aluminum with Kevlar. Manufactured fuel tank using tooled-foam mold core and Kevlar. Designed parts for the shifting system.

WIND TUNNEL

NORTHWESTERN MECH. ENG. DESIGN PROJECT, JUNE 2022

Designed and built a scale wind tunnel to test the aerodynamics of model cars and planes. It was also built to utilize it during class demonstrations and show the behavior of air at different speeds through the different sections of the models.

GO KART RESTORATION

PERSONAL PROJECT, ONGOING

My passion for cars, and engineering pushed me to buy a non-working go kart with the purpose of restoring it, making it work again and learning new skills and the full working principles of the go kart.
